LISA FOGARTY
Editor · Journalist · Content Strategist
Hi and welcome—I am an editor, journalist, and content strategist with 18+ years of experience in newsroom and newsroom-adjacent environments, leading editorial teams and clarifying complex health, science, and consumer information so that content is clear and engaging for broad audiences.

I'm currently a Senior Multimedia Content Creator at Consumer Reports, where I translate product testing data, research findings, and technical information into accessible content for non-expert audiences. Some days I am poring over data to help develop our brand and narrative strategy and grow our audience. Other days you'll find me rolling up my sleeves in the lab testing cooling blankets, baby formula makers, or fumbling with a force gauge to test plastic food wrap.

As a freelance writer, some of my favorite pieces I've published include When Anorexics Grow Up (The New York Times), an exploration of why Americans no longer eat mutton (NPR's The Salt), When Anorexia Strikes in Midlife (Psychology Today), and this feel-good piece about the inclusive surfing community I found in New York City (The New York Times). For more clips, see Health Writing, Lifestyle Writing, and Commerce Writing.
I also love helping other writers develop their writing and find their voice. Back in my newspaper days, I designed and launched the Queens Chronicle's first internship program, and recruited, trained, and edited young journalists. I've edited the work of freelance writers at Bustle Digital Group and Consumer Reports in topics that range from health and wellness to home products. Examples of work I've edited can be furnished upon request.

My experience extends to on-camera and podcast work. I serve as a trusted on-air spokesperson, reinforcing Consumer Reports’ mission of independence, accuracy, and consumer advocacy, and am the co-creator and co-host of a mission-driven health podcast called The Hunger Trap, which focused on eating disorder education and advocacy.

I am a proud mom of two, a wife, and a pet mom to Blake, the Labradoodle, and Pepper, the stray-turned-diva kitty. In my non-work life, I'm reading, writing prose, creative nonfiction, and flash prose, surfing (badly), playing guitar (kinda badly) kickboxing (a little less badly), and I just started American Sign Language classes.
